Image Comics will publish a 20th Anniversary edition of Brian K. Vaughan and Nico Henrichon’s Pride of Baghdad, a fictionalized version of the true story of four lions who escaped from the Baghdad zoo after American forces bombed Iraq in 2003.  The new edition will have a wraparound dust jacket with new cover art by Henrichon, as well as previously unpublished extras and a new afterword by Vaughan.  Image will also publish a Direct Market exclusive edition with the cover art from the original first edition.  The 168-page hardcover will be released in all retail channels on September 23, 2026, with an MSRP of $24.99.

Pride of Baghdad was originally published by the DC Comics imprint Vertigo and generated considerable pre-release buzz (see “Brian K. Vaughan Feted in N.Y. Times”).  It was the top-selling graphic novel in its release month of September 2006 (see “Civil War on Top Again”), and it won the 2007 Harvey Award for Best Graphic Album—Original.
