El Nino is in full effect across the land, and a hurricane of Hollywood news has hit shore. Time for a round-up!

Disney/Pixar’s Toy Story 5 won the Juneteeth weekend box office with a $160 million take in North America, according to Variety.  That’s the best domestic box office opening weekend of 2026 to date, and sets a record for the franchise (see “‘Toy Story 4’ Posts $118 Million Debut“).  The film took in $152 in international markets for a total of $312 for the weekend.  

Peacock has ordered a first season of the Dungeon Crawler Carl TV series, according to Deadline The new series, based on Matt Dinniman’s ultra popular LitRPG books (see “Webtoon Inks Deal with Ebook“), will be produced by Seth MacFarlane’s Fuzzy Door production company and Universal Global Television.  The LitRPG property has a large built-in audience, and a strong product flow (see “’DCC’ Series Development“).

Netflix has acquired the movie rights to Sesame Street, according to The Hollywood Reporter They beat out Universal in a bidding war for the rights in what was initially a three-way contest that also included Warner Bros, who dropped out early amid the Paramount acquisition drama (see “Paramount Wins“).  Netflix nabbed the television rights to Sesame Street in May 2025.

Marvel Entertainment released a new trailer for Spider-Man: Brand New Day (see below).  This movie, starring Tom Holland, Zendaya, Sadie Sink, and Jon Bernthal, hits theaters on July 31, 2026 (see “‘Spider-Man Brand New Day’“).

Universal Pictures and Dreamworks Animation released a teaser trailer announcing Shrek 5 (see below).  This movie is slated to hit theaters in summer of 2027 (see “Best in Shows — 2027“).

Disney/Pixar released a teaser trailer for Gatto (see below).  This new animated movie, featuring the voice talent of Mark Ruffalo and Laurence Fishburne, will head to theaters on March 5, 2027 (see “‘Gatto’ Gets New Date“).Source: ICV2
