The summer weather is wild, but so is the recent microburst of Hollywood news.  Time for a round-up!

Paramount and Hasbro have a new Transformers movie in the works, according to TheWrap. The new movie will be helmed by Jason Fuchs, the writer of It: Welcome to Derry (see “‘IT: Welcome to Derry’“).  This movie will be executive produced by Steven Spielberg and Hasbro Entertainment.

Netflix and Sony Pictures Animation revealed the logo for Ghostbusters: Night Shift This is a new, original animated series executive produced by Jason Reitman, who directed Ghostbusters: Afterlife (see “Sony Pictures Unveils ‘Ghostbusters: Afterlife’“), and Gil Kenan.  It will begin streaming in 2027.

Amazon MGM Studios is developing a new Jem and The Holograms live action series, according to Deadline This project will be executive produced by Kilter Films and Hasbro Entertainment, the Jem license holder (see “Two Hasbro Licenses“).

Doctor Who showrunner and writer Russell T Davies and Bad Wolf have exited the series, according to Variety The BBC cancelled the Doctor Who Christmas special and is in the process of looking for new production partners for the series.  The BBC also recently ended their partnership with Disney+ for Doctor Who (see “‘Doctor Who’ Collab“).

The Arena has optioned SNK’s video game titles for development as film projects, according to The Hollywood Reporter The titles included in this deal are Fatal Fury, The Art of Fighting, Metal Slug, Samurai Showdown, and more.  This Saudi-backed studio is led by former Lionsgate executive Erik Feig, former Universal executive Matt Reilly, and former CrunchyRoll marketing executive Markus Gerdemann.  Feig was responsible for bringing the Twilight book series to Summit Entertainment, which was then acquired by Lionsgate (see “New Twilight“).

Disney released a new trailer for Moana (see below).  This live action movie, starring Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson and Catherine Laga’aia, will hit theaters on July 10, 2026 (see “Best in Shows — 2026“).Source: ICV2
