Crows is an upcoming “dungeon survival horror RPG” from MCDM Studios, the makers of Draw Steel. Check out the free playtest!
If you are looking to spend your Memorial Day getting into a new RPG, then have I got news for you. MCDM Studios has just released a public alpha playtest of its upcoming “dungeon survival horror RPG” Crows. What is a dungeon survival horror? Now’s your chance to see for yourself.
MCDM’s Crows Goes Alpha
It sounds a lot like a roguelike or maybe a roguelite, so to speak. Because a big part of the gameplay involves going into a dark and horrible dungeon, finding treasure, and investing in your town to give you a better chance at getting deeper and deeper into the dungeon.
Invest in the alchemist, and you’ll have better potions. If you upgrade the blacksmith, they can make you better weapons, and so on and so forth. And all of this is over a backdrop of hapless adventurers, who are just as likely to die as not.
If you’ve played games like Darkest Dungeon or Loop Hero, you know the general tenor of what Crows is going for. And now, you can take it for a test run yourself.
“The first public playtest for Crows, a post-apocalyptic, survival horror, fantasy tabletop roleplaying game from MCDM, is live! Put on your wizard hat and get rich or die trying in a harsh world of hideous monsters lurking in forgotten ruins.
What you have in your digital hands is the first public playtest packet of the game, which is still in early stages of development. Your feedback will help us shape Crows, so we’re eager to know what you like and don’t like”
A fair warning, this is definitely unfinished. It hasn’t been properly laid out or edited. But the rules are there (though more are still in development) – at least enough to get a taste for the game proper. It’s a very different vibe, your character is meant to die, and you roll up another at random. Which can be a lot of fun, if you know that’s what you’re going for.
MCDM will of course, be looking for feedback from you for the playtest. I believe feedback is open through the end of June. So give it a try and help shape the future of the game. In the meantime, you can find the playtest at the link below!
I wonder how many crows are actually in Crows!
