DC Comics has compiled a tribute volume to the late writer and artist Keith Giffen that will collect his superhero parody series The Heckler for the first time ever.  The hardcover will include Giffen’s stories from Legion of Substitute Heroes Special #1, Legion of Super-Heroes (1989) #1, Justice League America #45, Justice League #5, Secret Origins #34, Lobo Paramilitary Christmas Special #1, The Big Book of Urban Legends #1, Blue Beetle #1, 52 #17, Ambush Bug #1-4, and The Heckler #1-6, as well as a foreword by Giffen’s Justice League collaborator, J.M. DeMatteis.  The 448-page hardcover, which also includes work by Paul Levitz, Kevin Maguire, Simon Bisley, and others, will go on sale on September 22, 2026, with an MSRP of $49.99.

Giffen, who died in 2023 (see “R.I.P. Keith Giffen”) was a writer and artist who was known for his irreverent take on superheroes.  The Heckler was a parody of superhero comics starring a character based on Bugs Bunny; it ran for six issues in 1992-1993.  Since then, the title character has made cameo appearances in later comics, had a minor role in One-Star Squadron (see “Cut-Rate Superheroes”), and appears in the video game Scribblenauts Unmasked: A DC Comics Adventure. The comics are being restored in full color for the new volume.
