The new year is in full swing, the Hollywood news is rolling in, and it’s time for a round-up!

The writing duo responsible for the smash-hit KPop Demon Hunters has been attached to a new project, according to The Hollywood Reporter: they will pen Tim Burton’s remake of the 1958 cult classic Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman (see “Tim Burton Helms ‘Attack of the Fifty Foot Woman’“).  Gillian Flynn was originally announced as the scribe for this film, but she has since parted ways with the project (see “‘Gone Girl’“).

Marvel Studios continued its series of Avengers: Doomsday teasers (see below).  The latest teaser shows a glimpse of the X-Men cast that will be in this movie, including original X-Men cast members Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen (see “‘Avengers: Doomsday’ Cast Unveiled“).

DC Studios added some new cast members to The Batman Part II, according to Variety.  Sebastian Stan joined the cast in an unnamed role; Scarlet Johansson was added in a supporting role (see “Scar-Jo Circles“); Colin Farrell returns as The Penguin; Jeffrey Wright returns as Commissioner James Gordon; Andy Serkis is back as Alfred Pennyworth; and Barry Keoghan will appear as the Joker.

Hulu acquired the streaming rights to The Toxic Avenger from Cineverse, the company announced.  This movie, starring Peter Dinklage, Kevin Bacon and Elijah Wood (see “‘Toxic Avenger’ Trailers“), had its SVOD premiere on the Hulu platform on January 8, 2026.

The Paramount Skydance hostile bid saga to acquire Warner Bros. Discovery marches on, according to The Hollywood Reporter On January 7, 2026, WBD reaffirmed their plans to sell to Netflix by formally rejecting Paramount’s latest bid (see “Ups Ante“).  However, after the bid rejection, board chairman Samuel Di Piazza, Jr. appeared on CNBC’s Squawk Box and stated that they would still be “very open” to a transaction with Paramount, but also indicated that WBD would have to pay a $2.8 billion break-contract fee to Netflix if they did so, nudging Paramount to absorb that fee with any new offer.

Netflix renewed Black Mirror, according to Variety This will be the eighth season of the anthology series that is being adapted as a graphic novel by Twisted Comics (see “‘Black Mirror’ Storylines“).Source: ICV2
