Hollywood took some time off from Halloween parties to announce a number of new developments, which we round up here.

Toho has released a teaser (see below) announcing the title of the upcoming sequel to Godzilla Minus One, which was greenlit last year (see “’Godzilla Minus One’ Follow-Up Greenlit“).  The film, Godzilla Minus Zero, will be written, directed, and have VFX supervised by Takashi Yamazaki, who had the same roles on Godzilla Minus One.

The BBC and Disney+ are ending their partnership on Doctor Who, the BBC announced.  BBC and the streamer collaborated on two seasons of the series aired on the streamer, and on the upcoming five-part spin-off, The War Between Land and the Sea (see “Doctor Who Spinoff“).  The BBC confirmed that they remain “…fully committed to the show and will announce plans for the next series in due course.”  In the meantime, Russel T. Davies will write a Christmas special for 2026.

Toei Animation is instituting a three-month production hiatus for new episodes of the One Piece anime, and reducing the number of episodes being produced each year, the studio announced. Episodes will now be released in two 13-episode “cours” (parts) each year, capping the number of new episodes at 26 per year.  In the past, 11-12 episodes of the manga would correspond to 4-5 manga volumes; under the new schedule, new episodes “will incorporate more content, tempo, and pacing of the manga,” the announcement said. The new cours, which will launch in April 2026, will coincide with the series’ Elbaph Arc.  The omnibus edition of the manga is on the Circana BookScan adult graphic novel bestseller chart (see “September 2025 Top GNs“).

Netflix has released a trailer for Season 5 of Stranger Things (see below).  The season’s episodes will drop in two groups, on November 26 and December 25, with the finale planned for December 31, 2025.  The streaming release of the two-hour finale will be simultaneous with a theatrical release at 5 p.m. PT on December 31 (see “’Stranger Things’ Finale in Theaters“).

Apple Original Films and Chernin Entertainment are developing a film based on the Marc Guggenheim and Eduardo Ferigato property Last Flight Out (see “Guggenheim Pens ‘Last Flight Out’“), published by Dark Horse Comics, according to Deadline.  The rights to the property were acquired in a seven-figure deal, according to the report.  The script will be adapted by Guggenheim, and Sam Hargrave (Extraction, The Last Frontier) is in talks to direct.

Hulu has ordered a pilot for a new series based on Jason Aaron and Jason Latour’s Southern Bastards Image Comics series.  Matt Olmstead (Chicago P.D., Law & Order: Organized Crime) will be showrunner and executive producer.  Southern Bastards is currently available in four trade paperback and two hardcover collections.Source: ICV2
