Longtime comic artist Don Perlin, who worked in the field from the late 1940s to the late 1990s, passed away on Tuesday, May 14, according to a post by his daughter on Facebook. He was 94. Perlin’s legacy includes the Moon Knight character for Marvel, and Valiant’s Bloodshot character, both of which he co-created.
Perlin began working in comics in the late 1940s, and did work for a variety of publishers during the 1950s, including Atlas Comics and Charlton. Beginning in 1962, he worked almost exclusively for Charlton for over a decade. He was a full-time penciler at Marvel from 1974 to 1985, including runs on Werewolf by Night, Ghost Rider, Man-Thing, The Defenders, and Transformers.
Perlin went to Valiant in 1991 and worked on several of their top titles, ending shortly after the company’s acquisition by Acclaim a few years later, with only a smattering of published work after that.
