Upper Deck has settled its last claim in the Disney Lorcana lawsuit, against designer Ryan Miller, after an effort to amend their complaint was rejected by the judge in the federal court case.  The settlement amounted to $39,000, awarded by a mutually agreed judgment of the court, to cover costs, expenses, and attorney fees paid by Upper Deck.

The judgment will be paid by Disney Lorcana publisher Ravensburger, which said that the amount “…represents the contractor fees Upper Deck paid Ryan Miller, which Ravensburger is happy to return.”

The claims against Miller were all that was left after the judge granted summary judgment on all of the counts of Upper Deck’s claims against Ravensburger earlier this month (see “Judge Rules Against Upper Deck“).  The suit, filed by Upper Deck in 2023, alleged that Ravensburger obtained the design for its Disney Lorcana game improperly from designer Ryan Miller, who had also done work for Upper Deck on Rush of Ikorr (see “Upper Deck Sues“).

“Everyone at Ravensburger, including Ryan, acted appropriately and professionally – we did nothing wrong, and this outcome reflects that,” Ravensburger Chief Product officer Filip Francke said of the recent developments. “On behalf of everyone at Ravensburger, I would like to personally thank the court for conducting the proceedings with the dignity and fairness this case deserved.”

Upper Deck told ICv2 after the ruling on the Ravensburger claims earlier this month that they intended to appeal and to continue with a recently filed lawsuit in Europe (see “Upper Deck to Appeal“).  Upper Deck did not respond to a request for comment on the latest events prior to publication.
