Dark Horse Announces Two Collections Based on James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’

Dark Horse Comics has announced two collected editions of comics based on James Cameron’s Avatar movies.

Avatar: The High Ground Omnibus collects the three-volume graphic novel series, first published in 2022 (see “Gift Items for Comics Fans”), based on Cameron’s unproduced screenplay for an Avatar prequel.  The screenplay was adapted by Sherri L. Smith and artists Guilherme Balbi, Diego Galindo, Gabriel Guzmán, George Quadros, Agustin Padilla, and Miguel Ángel Ruiz.  The complete saga was published by Dark Horse as a hardcover Library Edition in 2023 with a larger trim size.  The 264-page paperback Avatar: The High Ground Omnibus, rated 14+, will be released in bookstores on September 30, 2025, and in comic shops on October 1, with a cover by Doug Wheatley and an MSRP of $29.99.

Avatar: Tales from Pandora Omnibus collects four other trade paperbacks, originally published as comics, along with a short story, “Brothers,” by Sherri L. Smith and Doug Wheatley.  The four trades included in the omnibus are Tsu’tey’s Path, by Sherri L. Smith and artists Jan Duursma and Dan Parson (see “See James Cameron’s ‘Avatar’ from a New Perspective”); The Next Shadow, by Jeremy Barlow and Josh Hood (see “Dark Horse Miniseries to Bridge the Gap Between ‘Avatar 1’ and ‘Avatar 2’”); Frontiers of Pandora: So’lek’s Journey, by Ray Fawkes and Gabriel Guzmán; and Adapt or Die, by Corinna Bechko and Beni R. Lobel.  The 480-page paperback will be released in bookstores on October 28, 2025 and in comic shops on October 29, with an MSRP of $39.99.

Cameron inked a deal with Dark Horse to publish comics based on the Avatar movies in 2015 (see “James Cameron Announces ‘Avatar’ Comic Books”).
