Hachette Boardgames will release a new game from The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt and new Edition Spielwiese titles, including a MicroMacro product, in 2025, the company announced.
Gwent is a two-player card game developed by CD Projekt Red and introduced in 2015 RPG videogame bestseller (over 50 million copies sold) The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt. The upcoming card game from Hachette, produced by No Loading Games, will be the first tabletop version.
In Gwent, the players build decks from various factions and deploy units and special ability cards to a battlefield of multiple rows. Cards represent creatures, spells, and special effects, and have strength values that contribute to the total score for the round. Strategic elements include bluffing, resource management, and reading the opponent’s moves.
Gwent includes over 400 cards and a playmat. It’s for 2 players ages 14 and up, and plays in 20 minutes. It will street in Q3 2025 at a $39.99 MSRP.
Hachette Boardgames has also announced the first releases from its new deal with Edition Spielwiese, the German publisher behind MicroMacro (see “Hachette Inks Agreement with Edition Spielwiese”). MicroMacro Jigsaw – Fun Fair, is a jigsaw puzzle of the funfair scenery from cooperative detective game MicroMacro: Crime City, which won the Spiel des Jahres in 2021, and was originally published in the U.S. by Pegasus Spiele (see “2020 Winner Unveiled”). The puzzle will include 50 kid-friendly search-and-find tasks to solve after assembly. Release is planned for January at $24.99 MSRP.
In February, Hachette Boardgames will release The Same Game, also from Edition Spielwiese. Designed by Wolfgang Warsch (Quacks of Quedlinburg), the cooperative party game features pairing and word relation. Players discuss how different objects might share something in common across categories, while trying to avoid a trap hidden in one of the categories. After a player draws an object card and finds a different object similar in one category but different in all the others, the rest of the group decides together in which categories the two objects differ.
The Same Game is for 3-6 players ages 10 and up and plays in 30 minutes. It will be released in February at $29.99 MSRP.
