Best new Lego sets 2024

The last Nightmare Before Christmas Lego set was a long time ago, longer now than it seems (in a place that perhaps we’ve seen in our dreams). However, that’s all set to change in September 2024. Goths, Disney fans, and Disney Goths are eating well thanks to the Disney Tim Burton’s The Nightmare Before Christmas set.

This set recreates the town hall of Halloween Town, Jack Skellington’s House, and the graveyard where spooky power couple Jack and Sally share their first kiss. Both are among the included minifigures, and they’re joined by The Mayor, Zero the ghost dog, Lock, Shock, Barrel, and ‘Sandy Claws’ himself.

These locations are too cramped to play in, but they’re delightfully faithful display pieces. We’re big fans of the details in this set. You can see the Christmas countdown tracker at the town hall, while Jack’s attic includes a drawing board to figure out exactly what Christmas is. The graveyard has all the ingredients Sally needs to create her brews, and there’s even a moon for the lovers to smooch under.

The Lego Burrow Collector’s Edition set is a bigger, more luxurious version of the retired Attack on the Burrow set. Fans of Harry Potter Lego sets will be very pleased with what this set has to offer. Namely, a stunning building stuffed with Easter Eggs and unique minifigures.

This version of The Burrow is 19 inches tall, 10 inches wide, and 10 inches deep. Remaking the Weasley family home in miniature has led to a rather cramped interior, meaning that play is limited, even with this set’s functional parts. However, for pure display purposes, there’s excellent value for money available.

Every member of the Weasley family is included in the set (even ones you scarcely see in the Harry Potter movies). Harry is also present, with a brand-new minifg for the set, and even the Weasley’s carrier owl made the cut. The Burrow features everything from family holiday snaps to Arthur Weasley’s collected plugs. Stickers do a lot of the heavy lifting, sadly, but the final result is a home that feels charming and alive.

The Lego Great Deku Tree set has officially opened the floodgates for Legend of Zelda Lego sets. Huzzah! Thankfully, this long-awaited crossover doesn’t disappoint. The Great Deku tree is a two-in-one set that features two gorgeous versions of this iconic location. The first is from Ocarina of Time, and the second is from the more recent Breath of the Wild.

The four minifigures include one Zelda in her Breath of the Wild garb, plus three Links – a Breath of the Wild version and his adult and child self from Ocarina. The set also features several adorable brick-built Koroks and a teeny tiny Navi.

As for the set itself, each Deku Tree comes with plenty of play and display value. The Breath of the Wild version features a moving face and a space among its leaves, while the Ocarina of Time tree can open its mouth as a door. The first of these is more detailed and complex than the second, but both look fantastic. We do wish this build was a little bigger for its price, though.

“You’re gonna need a bigger boat” may be printed on the front of the Lego Jaws set, but you don’t need a bigger table to display it. This diorama does a lot with a little, squeezing superb detail and design quality into Jaws’ most iconic scene. Oh, and we love the brick-based shark.

Lego Jaws shows off the good ship Orca and the apex predator that pursues it. Both are houses on a bed of frothing waves. The Orca has enough space to snugly house the three minifigures, Martin Brody, Matt Hooper, and Quint, plus all their shark-hunting gear.

Alternatively, Jaws and the Orca can be displayed separately. It’s not quite as dynamic, but you do get to see Jaws’ tail and the bottom of the boat, unobstructed.

There’s not much play to be found here, but there are some neat Easter Eggs for movie fans to find. This is the kind of Lego set that should be gazed lovingly at after completion.

The official Lego Store boasts that the Lego McLaren P1 is “our most advanced Lego Technic Ultimate set yet”. With a complete chassis, gear box, functional butterfly doors, and more, we can believe that statement. This Lego car oozes style, and it’s a wonderful collector’s piece for car lovers.

The McLaren P1 stands six inches tall, with a width of 10 inches and a depth of 24 inches. As you’d imagine, a set featuring almost 4,000 pieces makes for a pretty complex build. It’s an engaging way to while away the hours, but it’s not the most beginner-friendly buy.

Lego C-3PO is the biggest, most detailed brick build for the character to date. We’ve had plenty of R2D2s, but the smaller, rounder droid finally has a size-appropriate buddy that you can display alongside him.

The completed build is over 15 inches tall. C3PO has been recreated in detail, with printed pieces and stickers showing off his wiring, facial features, and even hand pads. Combine this with one silver leg, and you’ve got a surprisingly accurate depiction of the beloved Star Wars character.

The Star Wars Lego set also features a tiny minifigure of C3PO, which is less detailed but no less loveable. Place these two characters next to the display plaque, and you’ve got a grand homage to your favorite galaxy far, far away.

Lego Barad-Dûr is so mighty that we tremble just to look at it. This 33-inch tall set can look right back at us as we do so, its swivelling Eye of Sauron lighting up with a marvellous glow. Sauron’s dark lair is surprisingly colorful, and perhaps even more surprisingly, there’s a lot of play value in this imposing display piece.

The interior features a dungeon, a throne room, a library, and even an Orc dining hall, where meat is definitely back on the menu. Sam, Frodo, Sauron, and Gollum are the biggest names among the set’s minifigures, but the Mouth of Sauron is our personal favorite. Each of them is glorious to behold, and they fit nicely inside Barad-Dûr’s spacious halls.

Barad-Dûr is eye-wateringly expensive, but we do believe it’s worth the money. This is a stunning set stuffed with secrets to discover, and it literally lights up. For those Lord of the Rings fans who can afford to fork out, this is something of a dream come true.

Lego NASA Artemis Space Launch System stands at 28 inches tall, which is fairly large for a Lego set but nowhere near the size of an actual space shuttle. Despite the number of features Lego had to shrink down, this set is a pleasantly accurate depiction of the Artemis and its accompanying launch tower.

While it’s a complex and somewhat monotonous build, the results are well worth the effort. This is a realistic yet surprisingly vibrant display piece that shows off all the essential parts of a launch, from the launch pad umbilicals to the NASA logo on the shuttle boosters.

DnD players have been using Lego sets in their games for decades, whether that’s using minifigures as cheap alternatives to DnD miniatures, or creating their own custom Lego DnD dungeon tiles. It’s just a surprise it took us until 2024 to get an official DnD Lego set, in the form of Red Dragon’s Tale.

The set is packed with character and details. While its recommended for builders 18 and up, it has incredible toy value, thanks to densely packed playset-style scenes and a cast of minifigures and monsters – headed up by the red dragon.

What’s more, the set comes with a complete DnD adventure, something we want to see more of – there could be a whole Lego DnD campaign setting, complete with kits for encounters, adventure locations, and heroes.

The Lego Mini Palace of Agrabah is a delightful offering for all fans of Disney’s Aladdin –  the animated classic, not the Guy Ritchie rendition, of course!  Assembling this set is, for the most part, a straightforward experience, though the intricate steps are one of several elements that add to the challenge.

The set’s visual charm is absolutely captivating, with its regal matte gold domes and deep burgundy hues, perfectly complemented by vibrant accents from the magic carpet’s purple and teal turrets, creating a visually delightful spectacle. The addition of the lotus fountain and printed brick featuring Jasmine’s balcony certainly adds to the aesthetics.

The Lego Millennium Falcon Holiday Diorama features five characters, including Rey in a stylish green Christmas jumper with her unique hairstyle, and Finn sporting an ugly jumper with the resistance logo, this set captures the holiday vibe. Chewie, BB8 (arguably the best droid!), and a Porg complete the ensemble.

With reversible facial expressions for Finn and Rey, you can tailor your display. Additionally, the set includes two lightsabers that can be clipped onto the side or placed within the figure’s hands.

This set embraces simplicity in a charming way. When you strip away the holiday accessories and the Minifigures, it reveals a well-designed core. The doorway boasts great structural integrity, and the seating area is neat and tidy. The lights, a quintessential Christmas touch, add to the festive spirit. The Lego design for the string lights is not only clever but also aesthetically pleasing.

Standing at a height of 8 cm, with dimensions of 17 cm width and 12 cm depth, this set, comprises 282 pieces, providing an easy yet enjoyable building experience.

The Lego Disney 100 Walt Disney Tribute Camera offers a unique, compact model that maturely exudes Disney magic. This set includes 5 Minifigures: Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Bambi, Dumbo, and Walt Disney, with monochrome Mickey and Minnie giving a nod to Disney’s earlier days. The Minifigures are creatively displayed on a clapper board in front of a vault of cells, demonstrating Disney’s film creation process.

The camera features a film strip that showcases stills from 20 Disney films including some early titles like Pinocchio, and modern films like Frozen. Functional features include a crank which when turned sounds like a camera recording. It also features rotatable lenses and the camera even opens up to reveal an office space for your Walt Minifigure to sit!

Comprising 811 pieces, It is a neat display item that is perfect for all Disney enthusiasts. The camera measures over 37 cm high, 21 cm wide, and 19 cm deep and is readily available for a well-priced $99.99 (£89.99). This set is surprisingly challenging! For Disney enthusiasts, this is an absolute must-have.
