It’s spooky season and horror films seem to be doing well at the box office. The Nun II was in first place this past weekend, a repeat, not something that’s common with horror films. It dropped just 54.8% from the previous weekend grossing an estimated $14.73 million to bring its domestic gross to $56.5 million. Over the week, it grossed $49.6 million internationally to bring that to $102.3 million. Worldwide, the film has grossed $158.8 million after two weeks. The original grossed $365.6 million worldwide in 2018.
In second place was A Haunting in Venice which opened with $14.5 million domestically and $22.7 million internationally for $37.2 million worldwide.
The Equalizer 3 slipped one spot to come in third with an estimated $7.2 million. Its gross after three weeks is about $73.7 million. Internationally, the movie grossed $12.9 million over the week to bring that to $58.7 million an $132.4 million worldwide.
My Big Fat Greek Wedding 3 dropped one spot to fourth with an estimated $4.7 million at the domestic box office. The film has grossed just $18.6 million after two weeks showing this franchise is pretty much dead. Internationally it’s not doing much better with just $2.6 million over the week to bring that total to $5.3 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed just $23.9 million.
Barbie held steady in fifth place with just under $4 million domestically to bring its total to $626.1 million. Over the week, it grossed $8.4 million internationally to bring that to $790.6 million. Worldwide, the movie has grossed $1.417 billion. It’s the top grossing film for 2023 by far domestically and worldwide. The movie is currently #14 in all-time worldwide gross and there’s a good chance it has enough left to gross the $37 million it needs to pass Frozen II. Domestically, it’s #11 having passed The Avengers though it’ll need $27 million to pass Jurassic World. There’s a good chance that might happen before its run is over.
