Writers Collin Kelley and Jackson Lanzing and artist Max Dunbar will return to the eerily lit streets of Neo-Gotham in Batman Beyond: Neo-Gothic, a sequel to last year’s Batman Beyond: Neo-Year. The new series will launch on July 25, 2023, and the first issue will have a main cover by Dunbar, open-to-order variants by Christian Ward and Ejikure, a 1:25 variant by Belen Ortega, and 1:50 variant by Dike Ruan.
Batman Beyond: Neo-Year was a sci-fi take on the Batman mythology, growing out of the animated series and earlier Batman Beyond comics but with a new spin: The city itself has come alive, controlled by artificial intelligence, with Terry McGinnis, the new Batman, as its primary antagonist. In Batman Beyond: Neo-Gothic, McGinnis has defeated the AI but children are disappearing into the old city, and McGinnis has to venture into the bones of Old Gotham to find them.
The collected edition of Batman Beyond: Neo-Year was number 9 in the list of top graphic novels (unit sales) sold through ComicHub in February (see “Top 20 Graphic Novels: February 2023”).
