Seven Seas, which has been publishing Chinese fantasy novels, has now expanded into manhua, Chinese comics, starting with the series Grandmaster of Demonic Cultivation: Mo Dao Zu Shi, by writer Mo Xiang Tong Xiu (a.k.a. MXTX) and artist Luo Di Cheng Qiu. The manhua is based on the best-selling novels by MXTX, which have also been adapted into a donghua (Chinese animation) series titled Mo Dao Zu Shi and the live-action Amazon Prime series The Untamed.
The novels and manhua are set in a fantasy world (xianxia) in which humans cultivate supernatural powers. They follow Wei Wuxian, who took an unorthodox path and was ultimately killed by rival clans who feared his powers. Thirteen years later, he is reborn, summoned by a young man in a secret ritual and compelled follow a path of revenge, but he soon encounters even more powerful entities. The first volume of the manhua will be published on March 7, 2023, as a 216-page paperback with an MSRP of $19.99.
Seven Seas publishes the MXTX novels as well as the manga Thunderbolt Fantasy, which is based on a Chinese fantasy television series (see “Seven Seas Licenses Manga Based on Wuxia Puppet TV Series”).
