Luke Gygax, son of Dungeons & Dragons co-creator Gary Gygax, is channeling his father’s legacy to create a sprawling fantasy tabletop role-playing “mega-adventure” called The Temple of Inquinatious Evil in partnership with indy publisher Gooey Cube.
The Temple of Inquinatious Evil is a combination adventure and campaign setting featuring grim overtones of corruption and decay. It introduces the setting of Sha’adenmere, a dark land suffering under a terrifying unknown presence that is corrupting the land, served by the Four Lords of Corruption and their servants. The efforts of the Four center around the temple implied in the title, were rites are performed to expand that corruption and rain destruction on the world.
In a press release, Gygax described the intent behind the project, stating: “This project is particularly meaningful to me because it’s an opportunity to honor my father, Gary Gygax, and the incredible contributions he made to our hobby. The Temple is a tribute to one of his most memorable creations, reimagined as an entirely new adventure filled with danger, mystery, and opportunities for heroic deeds.”
The game materials are designed for use with 5e, 5.5, and OSE rules, but can be used with other fantasy role-playing systems as well.
The project will be presented in two boxed sets, the first featuring the Temple and the epic adventure set within it and its enormous dungeon network, complete with encounters, mysteries, non-player characters, and challenges. It includes 150 pages of adventure and game master reference, more than 50 art handouts, 24 NPC portraits, 40 special item cards, 24 Gooey Rewards cards, and maps covering five levels of the Temple complex.
The second boxed set explores the campaign setting, revealing its corrupted lands, unique denizens, and underlying horrors. This boxed set offers a “sandbox” for game masters to create their own adventures outside of the main Temple adventure. It includes 350 pages of lore and reference books, 75 art handouts, 90 NPC portraits, 100 cards, two regional poster maps, and 20 floor plans of various locations.
Gooey Cube plans to raise funds for the production through a crowdfunding campaign starting later this month.
Gygax and Gooey Cube previously collaborated on The Tomb of Gyzaengaxx adventure and campaign setting in 2024 (see “Luke Gygax Honor’s Father’s Legacy with ‘The Tomb of Gyzaengaxx’“). Earlier this year, Gygax and Wizards of the Coast announced plans for projects involving the classic Greyhawk setting (see “Gary Con XVIII News: ‘D&D’ Design Team Brings Luke Gygax Back into the Franchise“).
