Back in October of 2024, Pokémon TCG Pocket was released, and initially it was explosively popular. While Pokémania didn’t grip the world quite as tightly as it had during the summer of 2016 (the year Pokémon GO came out), there were plenty of players trying out this new take on the classic card game. Almost two years later, though, Pokémon Pocket is losing players, according to financial data recently published by the game’s developer DeNA in a report to its investors.
On August 5th, DeNA publicly released its operating results for the first quarter of 2026. According to these documents, Pokémon TCG Pocket currently has 23 million monthly active users. This is down slightly compared to the final quarter of 2025, when the game had 24 million monthly active users. It’s also a drop of sixteen million players compared to quarter one of 2025, when DeNA reported that the game had 39 million monthly active users.
The revenue of DeNA’s game business is also down in this quarter. Dipping from 16.1 billion yen ($102 million) last quarter to 12.1 billion yen ($76.6 million) for the first three months of 2026.
This decrease in revenue is attributed to Pokémon Pocket, with the report stating that “Pokémon Trading Card Game Pocket was the main driver of the change here”. DeNA has announced that the “main focus” of their gaming division is now soft launching 1-2 new titles, which they expect to be operational later during this fiscal year.
In a statement released alongside their operating results, DeNA announced that they “are leveraging AI as a growth driver to improve productivity, reinforce the competitiveness of existing businesses, and drive the creation and growth of new businesses.”
