In the strange, sometimes awful, often wonderful land of online Warhammer 40k fan art, one theme reigns supreme: the abominable, made cute. Long before GW cashed in on chibi Space Marines, online artists were depicting Warhammer 40,000’s warmongering space fascists as nicer characters, often with a distinctly adult tone (you know who you are). This recent series stands out beautifully, though – because it recasts the 40k primarchs not as daddies (stern look, spray bottle) but as, er, actual daddies!
Big Pangolin (known as Big P to his friends) is a digital artist from Vietnam, who’s midway through drawing each the Emperor of Mankind’s sons as dads with their daughters. And it’s unspeakably freaking adorable.
So far he’s painted and shared 14 of them on Reddit and Facebook – starting with (who else) Sanguinius, back in April 2026. His most recent update is a triptych of Perturabo, the lord of Iron (whose daughter is using a stepladder to stare the grumpy brute right in the eyes); Rogal Dorn (building a castle with his little girl, of course); and poor old Angron, whose daughter has cheered him up by giving him some sick new nails.
“There isn’t really any inspiration behind it,” Big P tells Wargamer – “just some random ideas that pop into my head”. Fans of his work (of which there are many; his most recent Reddit post got over 5,000 upvotes) have speculated it’s inspired by the popular 4chan fanfic Warhammer High.
That series invents high school-age daughters for each primarch, like Angron’s Furia, or the aptly named Faith, daughter of Lorgar Aurelian. But Big P tells us “I didn’t even know about that series until they brought it up”. Reimagining these giant, emotionally broken supermen as appealing, relatable, human characters is just a naturally occurring phenomenon among artistic Warhammer fans, it seems – and Big P gets why.
“It somehow creates a brighter, better world compared to the actual grimdark setting of Warhammer 40k,” he tells us. “Family and children are themes that easily resonate with people, and above all, they’re cute. Most fans of Warhammer already have families of their own, so I figured drawing this theme would definitely click with them.”
While Big P’s art style has changed subtly since he began the series, each piece consciously represents the primarchs’ specific lore, characteristics, and vibe. “I usually look up visual references, design details, and lore for each Primarch before drawing,” he explains. “Some Primarchs have distinct outfits or specific cultural themes they represent, so designing the daughters based on them is somewhat easier for me.”
Beyond the admittedly major change of giving the primarchs human children, Big P isn’t out to take liberties with the sanctified Lore. “I think the lore is already rich enough as it is,” he says. “I’m happy to have my own interpretation of it and I think everyone should be free to do so.
“Actually I’m glad that my arts can provide a lens through which they can look at the lore in another different way, and I hope they can add their own unique ideas to that.”
So, what’s next on his easel? “It’s gonna be Jaghatai Khan”, he tells us – “and maybe Horus”. I’m both excited and mildly terrified to see the warmaster and arch-traitor as a dad – especially since my last encounter with Lupercal’s parenting skills was his bloody reunion with Garviel Loken in the closing act of The End And The Death Vol. III. But, on the other hand, he was beloved by all, before everything went to crap – so I guess there’s scope for much adorableness there.
