Landry Pop Auctions has placed items from the Pokémon Collection of Doug Ferguson on the auction block.
Doug Ferguson is one of the few people to ever be honored with a their own Pokémon TCG card (Tsunekazu Ishihara, CEO of The Pokémon Company, being one of the notable others). Ferguson was the Senior Vice President of Product Development at Pokémon, who retired in 2019 after over 16 years with the company (as well as over 6 years with Wizards of the Coast). During his time at the company, he led product strategy and development, positioning the Pokémon TCG brand for the insane run of popularity it has experienced since 2019. Currently, Ferguson is the President of Ravenous Wolf, Inc., a business management and consulting services company focused on collectibles and gaming products.
The top-billed item for this auction is a CGC-Graded AU 2019 Pokémon Black Star Promos TPCi01 Doug Ferguson GX TPCi Farewell Gift 18″ x 25″ Jumbo Trading Card. There were only five oversized copies of this card produced (there was actually sixth one, but it was destroyed by a box cutter in-house), and there were no standard-sized versions of this card with the Pokémon card backing created (there was a single artist proof created with a black-backing). This is one of the rarest Pokémon employee promos produced, with less copies than the 2017 Ishihara GX promo printed, and is also a coveted Black Star Promo. The auction estimate for this card is between $30,000 and $50,000.
The auction also includes over 50 items that are examples of Ferguson’s collection. The items range from magazines to CoroCoro comics to video games. Prebidding is currently underway for these lots; the auction occurs on November 3, 2026.
Goldin announced their 2026 Pokémon 30th Anniversary auction, which runs through October 25, 2026 (see “‘2026 Pokémon 30th Anniversary’ Auction“).
