IDW Publishing is launching the new Hello Kitty graphic novel with a first-of-its-kind collectible mystery box. Each box will contain the Hello Kitty and Friends: Hello World! graphic novel with a special cover featuring Hello Kitty, Kuromi, or Cinnamoroll, as well as four trading cards featuring the characters, a keychain figurine, and a sheet of stickers. Both the graphic novel, which collects Hello Kitty and Friends: Hello World! #1-4, and the mystery box will be released on June 16, 2027. The standard edition of the graphic novel, rated for ages 9-12, has an MSRP of $9.99, and the mystery boxes will be priced at $29.99; both will be available through retail channels. The mystery box will be a one-time print run with no plan for reprints.
“In the comics world, blind bags turned collecting into an event, with fans tearing them open together and sharing every surprise. Now we’re bringing that energy to the book market,” said Tara McCrillis, President Operations / Associate Publisher IDW Publishing, in a statement accompanying the announcement. “Our goal is simple: make the love of reading feel as exciting as the hunt for a rare variant.”
The mystery box is IDW’s first blind box and also the first mystery book box for Hello Kitty.
IDW announced at ComicsPRO that it would publish licensed Hello Kitty comics (see “Hello Kitty“). The first story arc, Hello Kitty: Hello World!, by writer Mariko Tamaki and artist Cody Lemieux, launched in July 2026.
