Taschen will release a giant collection of the first 23 issues of Marvel’s Star Wars comics with digitally remastered art in October. Star Wars Comics Library Vol. 1 1977-1979 is a 680-page hardcover that measures a massive 11-inches wide and 15.6-inches tall.
The stories are written by Roy Thomas and Archie Goodwin, with art by Howard Chaykin and Carmine Infantino. The adaptation of the first movie featured Chaykin art because Star Wars director George Lucas had spotted his art in the “groundlevel” comic Star Reach. The first issue sold over a million copies.
Art has been remastered to correct imperfect printing while capturing the original feel of the comics;’ first release. In addition to the comic material, the volume includes an in-depth history by comic historian Peter Sanderson.
At the other end of the size and price spectrum, Taschen is releasing a series of compact format 700-page Marvel Comics omnibi at $25 MSRP (see “Compact Marvel Omnibi“).
