Dungeon Crawler Carl stays hot, and a new Spider-Man title emerges on the chart of the Top 20 best-selling Adult graphic novels according to Circana BookScan data for August 2026 (8/2/2026 – 8/29/2026) provided to ICv2.
Dungeon Crawler Carl tops the chart for the second month in a row; it has been in the top 20 since its release in May 2026.
At number 5 is Spider-Man: Brand New Day, a compact-sized, value-priced volume containing a selection of Spider-Man stories that’s obviously designed to tie in with the movie (see “‘Spider-Man: Brand New Day’ Claims #2 All-Time“). That seems to have worked, and the correlation is clear: The book was released in June but didn’t crack the BookScan Adult Top 20 until August, although it did place on the Superhero charts; on the comics retail side, it was in the ComicHub/Comic Shop Assistant Top 20 for all three months. This book is clearly aimed at new readers: Although it’s a compact edition, it doesn’t have the Marvel Premier Collection trade dress, and it’s priced at $9.99, making it a tempting impulse buy. Clearly, something is working!
For the second month in a row, Vol. 1 of Jujutsu Kaisen is number two. The number three title in July, Adventure Zone: Story and Song, drops out of the Top 20 altogether and is replaced by Vol. 8 of Kagurabachi, a series that is clearly gaining momentum. The first volume was one of the top-selling manga of the first half of 2026 (see “Top 20 Manga in Comic Stores – First Half Year 2026“), and it’s likely to be even more popular once the anime premieres in April 2027.
Two other Superhero titles made the Top 20, breaking up the otherwise manga-heavy list: Avengers: Secret Wars, the latest Marvel Premier Collection title, and Vol. 1 of Absolute Batman, released over a year ago and still selling.
