Snap Ships Tactics returns to Kickstarter with its biggest expansion yet: the Capital Ships Box, a set of construction parts and rules that lets players stretch their fleets to truly massive, multi-stand proportions. This one is for the builders.
Unlike a standard expansion, the Capital Ships Box isn’t a single ship with a fixed set of instructions. Instead, it’s a toolkit complete with new armoured plates, angled connectors, cards, and rules that let builders take the parts from their existing ships and scale them up into three-, four-, and five-stand behemoths with new mechanics and unique super-weapons. The Kickstarter campaign will provide tips and inspiration on how to build custom dreadnoughts.
The box is fully compatible with the rest of the Snap Ships Tactics line. Lead designer Josh Derksen built a three-stand battlecruiser (pictured above) from just a single Gladius kit, a single Trident kit, and one Capital Ships Box. These megaships will make incredible raid bosses for a squadron of fighters or a two-stand battleship to go up against.
Capital Ships use the new stand bridge connector included with all battleships, which can link stand bases in eight different directions. That means capital ships aren’t locked to one silhouette: builders can create long battle-lines, T-shapes, V-shaped flying wings, or even fully operational space stations.
The Capital Ships Box joins the previously announced battleship expansions — Trident, Gladius, Scorpion, and Hammerjaw — and a full reprint of the range, all part of a campaign that more than doubles the size of the award-winning tactical miniatures game and offers a variety of content for veterans of Snap Ships Tactics and new players alike.
What’s in the box
Each Capital Ships Box contains four copies of a full parts set, so players can scale up across their whole fleet:
- 56 armoured plates (28 per faction) in seven new sizes, for stretching and shaping hulls and nacelles
- 32 wedges — new double-sided 30-degree connectors for angled, less boxy builds
- 16 standard cubes for infrastructure
- 16 orange pegs
- 2 punchboards of new terrain and tokens, including crew
- An additional Stand Bridge
- A full set of chassis and part cards for designing capital ship layouts
- A Capital Ships rulebook
