GW shocks Warhammer 40k fans with new Nob pics

On Monday, Games Workshop revealed a brand new kit for the Ork Nobz. Nobz are the bigger and meaner veteran troops of the belligerent greenskin race; their name is both an abbreviation of the word ‘Noble’ and a puerile joke that a Warhammer 40k writer came up with in the late 1980s, and headline writers have been grateful for ever since. The updated Nobz are set to release some time after the Orks get their new 11th edition codex, and will bring a few new toys into the new edition.

According to GW’s post on the Warhammer community website announcing the kit, the new Nobz can “be beefed up with a bunch of specialist gear”. We don’t know all of the implements of destruction that these big lunks will get to play with, but model pictures reveal that they will at least include a whopping great Big Skorcha, and some very large guns that aren’t just the current Kombi-Shoota option.

While it seems the Nobz will gain some ranged weapons, they’re going to lose some melee options. Specifically, the rules for their melee weapons will be streamlined so that various “powered blades, klaws, and bludgeons” will be rolled into a single profile for “Kustom Krumpas”. It’s still possible that certain melee weapons will get singled out with unique profiles; that massive Big Choppa really looks like it deserves to have the Cleave ability.

GW also shared some new angles on the previously revealed new Ork Warbiker kit. They look sick! And there’s at least one minor change to their statline: the biker Nob can now add a Rokkit launcher to their mount for a little bit of tank-punching power.

The updated Warbikers will release before the Nobz and alongside the new Orks’ Codex. That doesn’t give us a firm date, but it will be soon, with Orks the first Warhammer 40k faction to receive a new Codex this edition.

If you want to share pics of your Nobz, they’ll be welcome in the Wargamer Discord community!
