Paverson Games has announced Small Batch: A Distilled Game, a new faster-playing version of its 2023 game Distilled. The new game will release direct to retail in the second quarter of 2027.
Created by Ben Rosset (Fromage, Bre Crafters), Small Batch is built on a modified version of the earlier game that is designed to play faster with a shorter playing time. As before, players are master distillers competing to produce batches of spirits. The new title is a complete stand-alone game using the familiar theme while introducing new game mechanics blended together with the “heads and tails” mechanic from the original design.
Players choose their actions using a drafting mechanic that affects both the actions they may take and when they get to perform them, adding a timing element to the strategy. Through their actions, they acquire the ingredients and recipes they need to craft their spirits and can invest in upgrades such as special bottles and barrels to enhance their product. To keep players engaged, a “following” mechanic allows players to react to their opponent’s actions outside of their turn.
Small Batch is almost entirely card-driven, providing a more compact and portable game and features artwork by Distilled artist Erik Evensen. It is intended for one to four players and plays in under an hour. MSRP has not been announced.
Paverson recently ran a successful crowdfunding campaign for the Japanese-themed worker placement game Ringyo (see “Paverson Games Reveals ‘Ringyo’”).
