Shadowrun’s Sixth World explores a final frontier in Explosive Decompression, a new sourcebook for Shadowrun 6E all about space.

Say what you will about the JJ Abrams Star Trek movies, but they are an incredible reminder that space is disease and danger wrapped in darkness and silence. Worth it alone to see Karl Urban absolutely grasping the essence of Bones. Be that as it may, that attitude about the deep, dark frontier of what lies beyond our planet is at the front and center of a new Shadowrun sourcebook, Explosive Decompression.

Shadowrun: Explosive Decompression – Available Now

It is worth pointing out that in the Sixth World, space isn’t the only final frontier. There’s the Astral Plane and also the cyberscape to explore and deal with. All of which come crashing together in this 184-page sourcebook from Catalyst Game Labs.

It is a resource and campaign sourcebook, meaning it’s mostly for GMs looking to involve the upper atmosphere and beyond in their Shadowrun campaigns. Especially since recent adventures have dealt a serious blow to the otherwise tight grip that the Corporate Court holds on near Earth orbit.

In fact, it is no longer just the Corporate Court and Zurich-Orbital running things up there, as you’ll soon see.

“Ever since sentient eyes looked up into the night skies, the idea of exploring the great beyond of space has been one of the driving forces of known history. Once at the forefront of technological advancements, the deep dark void has become yet another frontier of profit for corporations and special interests who seek nothing but wealth and power. But recent events have loosened the iron grip the corporations once held on space travel, providing opportunities for those skilled, daring, and just crazy enough to run the void. They have to remember, though, that only one mistake or miscalculation and space will quickly reveal how unforgiving it really is. “

Space and space travel are increasingly a big part of cyberpunk settings and stories. I think the closer we get to the future envisioned by those early titans of the genre (Neuromancer et al.), the more we want to see just what sorts of near-future space hijinks we can get up to. Even Edgerunners understands how dramatic and hopeful it is to look up at the stars from the moon.

So if you want to get a handle on how space works in the Sixth World, you’ll definitey want to pick this one up. See how the story unfolds, and how quickly your Shadowrunners will learn that in space, nobody can hear you scream.

Seeing Shadowrun take a look at space again makes me hopeful for even more weird expansions!
