The latest teaser for Dawn of War IV reveals the Necron hosts marching to war.
Dawn of War IV is one of the most anticipated RTS games of the year, and it’s just a few short months away. We’ve had teasers for other factions, most recently the forces of the Omnissiah, but today we receive our first in-depth look at the relentless armies of the Necrons.
Thothmek, Chronomancer Supreme
This latest trailer for the game introduces the Necrons and their commander on Kronus, the Chronomancer, Thothmek. It seems that Kronus was once the domain of the deathless dynasties of the Necron and Thothmek has taken a personal interest in reclaiming it for himself and the Szarekhan Dynasty.
The Szarekhan Dynasty is led by the Silent King himself and its Crypteks are particularly adroit at the manipulation of Blackstone. Does this hint at Thothmek’s purpose on Kronus? Surely, a prominent Chronomancer of the Szarekhan Dynasty is stirred to war only by the the most compelling of reasons.
Thothmek has come to Kronus to dispense with the “lesser species” currently warring for Kronus. It appears he’s accompanied by some Lychguard to keep any of these fleshy inferiors at bay.
A close up of Thothmek himself shows him in all his alien glory. That’s a face with which you can trust the fate of a planet/system/all lesser flesh beings. He seems nice.
The Deathless Legions
Further ranks of Necrons have been awakened to join Thothmek’s hosts and we get a look here at them arrayed in rank and file. This trailer is all CGI narrative but it’s a safe bet that any Necrons we see here will be making their way into gameplay.
Triarch Stalkers accompany the Necron host. Versatile weapons platforms, Triarch Stalkers can handle infantry and armor with ease but are commonly deployed as dedicated anti-armor units. These will certainly give the Adeptus Mechanicus a run for their credits.
Naturally, you can’t have a Necron army without an absolute heap of Necron Warriors and the trailer does not dissapoint. There’s something unsettling about seeing rank upon rank of metallic warriors moving and turning their gazes in unison. It’s going to be amazing to see them doing this in the game itself.
The ubiquitous Necron scarabs are crawling all over, as well, of course. I think I saw some Deathmark making their implacable way forward as well, but I suspect we’ll be seeing a number of other Necron models making their way into the PC game.
Thothmek and his legions stand upon the precipice of war, ready to further complicate the already lethal conflict between the forces of the Imperium and the Orks that rages upon Kronus. Will the Szarekhan Dynasty be victorious and achieve its inscrutable goals, or will they somehow be thwarted by the inferior races? Surely the Necrons wouldn’t bite off more than they can chew, would they? Surely not.
Warhammer 40,000: Dawn of War IV is set to launch on 17 September 2026 and is available for pre-order now.
