Chaosium just released a free quickstart version of the Age of Vikings RPG. It has everything you need to dive right into the game, whether you play in person or online, including a pre-made scenario and virtual tabletop support. All you have to do is go download it.

Chaosium’s Age of Vikings Quickstart – Available For Free

As you might have gathered from the name, the Age of Vikings RPG is a roleplaying game set in the Age of Vikings. You play as Vikings in the titular age, and delve into the world of mythic Iceland. Yeah don’t worry, there’s magic and sagas and monsters and more lurking out on the oceans.

If you’ve never played it, the game works off of Chaosium’s Basic Roleplaying System. Which you can see shades of in Call of Cthulhu though of course, every setting puts its own unique wrinkle on its theme/setting. And in Age of Vikings you’ll find all things Viking-related, including rules for running your own raids and families and settlements and the like.

The free Quickstart gives you a taste of it with premade heroes and the Belly of the Beast scenario, which is designed to be played out in about two or three hours. All of which you can find for free over at Chaosium’s digital store.

All you’ll need to supply is a handful of d10s, since it’s a percentile system. And I guess friends to play with. Though it is easy to find them anywhere, including Quest Portal, Foundry, and Roll20, where you can also find Age of Vikings support.
