Confirms Three ‘Universes Beyond’ Sets for Next Year, Announces 2027 MagicCon Dates
Wizards of the Coast revealed three Magic: The Gathering sets that will head to stores in 2027.
MagicCon: Amsterdam 2026 offered quite a bit of news for Magic fans. WotC revealed three original IP Premiere sets that were on the 2027 slate. The first set of the three, scheduled to arrive on February 5, 2027, in Nauctis: The Sunken Realm. Nauctis is an underwater plane that basically contains everything lovers of merfolk have ever dreamed of. The world features fish creatures of all sorts for every color on the Magic color wheel.
The next Premiere set to hit the streets will be a new Kamigawa set, Kamigawa: Titatbreach. In this set, the monster world of Ikora (see “‘Ikoria: Lair of Behemoths’“) literally collides with Kamigawa (see “‘Kamigawa Neon Dynasty’“) for a classic mechs versus monsters showdown. The set has very Attack on Titan Meets BattleTech flavor to it, and it heads to retail on June 4, 2027.
The last Premiere set announced was Zhalfir. This set is the home plane of the planeswalker Teferi, which was once part of the continent of Jamuraa on the plane of Dominaria (see “‘Dominaria’“) before he phased it and made the world its own plane. This set is an Afrofantasy and Afrofuturist-inspired, and contains several cultural elements of African folklore; it will head to stores on October 1, 2027.
WotC also confirmed that there will be three Universes Beyond sets next year. The first set hit on April 9, 2027, the second on August 6, 2027, and the final one on November 19, 2027. No further information was release on the themes of these sets.
