Goatboy here and this last week we had a Warhammer 40K mini FAQ come out before the Tacoma 2026 event that is taking place this upcoming weekend.  With this in mind let’s talk about some of the big changes that point to 40K’s future.

I wasn’t able to attend the Tacoma Open this year and instead I am doing a localish event to me.  The talk is going around the communuty is that a more updated fleshed out FAQ will be out after Tacoma. Here’s the major points you should expect to see coming your way to 11th in the days ahead:

Necron Characters and Reanimation

The big thing the Design Studio attacked in here is the whole – Necron Characters coming back to a unit through their normal Reanimation.  The current rules allow any model in the unit to come back with the Reanimation Protocols which mean hitting the and removing it with precision attacks would be a waste as they will just come back to the unit.  They quickly changed this in the FAQ saying Characters couldn’t come back.  Right now they can come back with a Stratagem but that is utilizing a resource and it is a once per game per model rule.  This is a heck of a lot easier to remove this ability.

On the same Reanimation protocol nerf they change the time frame when you check if you have secured an objective.  The ruling now states you check for objective control first and then you can reanimate some of your fallen robot bros.  This is a big change too and probably be something Necron players have to think about when pulling models off of an objective in hopes of keeping it or stealing it with some checking regrown characters.

I figured the first one would be a change coming but the second is another nice hit to the army.  Right now we are playing a game with rules from the edition before.  This will cause all kinds of weird things to fall thru the cracks we wait on an updated book with a pile of shifted rules and other options.  I think it is a good thing GW is willing to quickly fix some of these things.

MOBILE Keyword Gets Handed Out

Speaking of some other changes a pile of super characters got the Mobile keyword which will help them be terrors on the table top.  The Primarchs got it back as well as some of the Daemon Primarchs, and even the Red Terror.  I think this Mobile keyword rule will show up pretty heavily when we finally get our new codexes and shiny new rules.

Odds & Ends

In some more wonderful news you can now upgrade your units and still attach an epic character to it.  There was a time frame where no Epic Character could have an Enhancement which meant any unit they could attached too couldn’t be upgraded.  This is a pretty nice rule and lets you have some fun with the 1 DP detachments and the cool units you can create within there.

There were some changes to how you gain CP to with the maximum of one extra gained per battle round which is a pretty helpful little thing to stop some crazy issues that could happen.  It also means all that stacking of trying to gain more CP gets turned off – which again points to the whole idea if it feels to overpowered it problem is overpowered.  I also think that any new army you start should be looked at thru the lens of could it change rather heavily.

There are a few other things but I suspect will see more when a real FAQ gets fully released.  I also expect some point shifts coming too as well.  I don’t think they would blow up any points before Tacoma as players have locked in their lists, got all their stuff painted, and most likely will be preparing to fly out in 5 or so days.

We’ll see what else the Design Studio has in store for us in the days ahead!
