Midsummer is coming in hot, and so is the Hollywood news!  Time for a round-up!

DC Studios may have found a Gorilla Grod for the DC Crime series, according to Deadline.  Sources close to the production say that Jimmy Tatro is in talks to join the series. This series will mimic a true crime docuseries hosted by Jimmy Olsen (see “‘DC Crime’“).  The series has not officially been given a greenlight for production yet.

FX has added new cast to Alien: Earth Season 2, according to Variety Tracey Ullman, Sam Spruell, and Jerome Flynn all join the series.  Peter Dinklage had previously been announced as a new cast member of the show; Flynn and Dinklage had famously appeared together as the duo of Bronn the Sell Sword and Tyrion Lannister on Game of Thrones.  Alien: Earth premiered last year in August 2025 (see “‘Alien: Earth’“).

Warner Bros. and Legendary Pictures released a new trailer for Dune: Part 3 (see below).  This film concludes Denis Villeneuve’s trilogy of Dune movies, and will hit theaters on December 18, 2026 (see “‘Dune 3’ Gets a Title“).

Paramount Plus revealed a new trailer for Avatar Aang: The Last Airbender (see below).  The animated movie heads to streaming on July 25, 2026 (see “‘Last Airbender’“).

Disney has ordered a live-action pilot for Last Kids on Earth, based on the Max Braillier novel series, according to Deadline The pilot will be written by Chad Fiveash and James Stoteraux, the co-creators of Gotham Knights (see “‘Gotham Knights’“).  In addition to the novels, there are also two middle-grade Last Kids on Earth graphic novels written by Brallier.

Crunchyroll announced that anime feature Akira is headed back to theaters.  The classic anime movie will re-release, remastered for 4K and IMAX, in theaters across the U.S. and Canada on September 4, 2026.  Crunchyroll acquired the rights to Akira back in 2022 (see “Crunchyroll Acquires Many“).Source: ICV2
