Goatboy here again with some fun poking at playing this game for a long time.  These are the Warhammer kits that that show you might have played this game a bit too long.

It is always a wild thing to look at my piles and piles of shame and think I bought this before my oldest was born and I still haven’t painted it yet.  Let’s pull up a chair and wax poetic about some of the things that easily label you as an old warhammer player.

There was a time in this game where you didn’t get custom dice made for your team.  You were given so many dice at an event that you almost never have to worry about forgetting your dice bag.  You had a plethora of resin options that showcase your whimsical Warhammer choices.

Casino Dice

If you have or are playing with a crap ton of Casino dice you have probably been playing this game too long.  There was a time where you didn’t roll 20+ dice with exploding 6’s for a single unit in the game.  Instead you wanted to ensure you had the perfect chance for success with a square edged dice that rolled around on a felt table top.  I still have a pile of my Casino dice I sometimes stare at on my shelf.  There was a time I would scour Ebay to find good used ones that came from interesting Casinos in order to give me the best chance to roll that 3+ invulnerable save on my Storm Shield  custom made Space Goats Thunder Wolf lord. Thee go in and out of fashion for “perfect top tier play” every decade or so. While I think about those hard edged Casino dice I happen to look up at my closest and see two very distinct terrain pieces…

Imperial Bastion

First of all, who out there still has some nice classic Bastions? These came out with Planetstrike way back in 5th Edition in 2009! There was a 40K time when you would bring a Bastion to the tabletop like it was your special little building friend.  Your units would hide behind that terrain piece as you waited to see who went first and caused the first “blood” of the match.  I think I have a few of these Bastion parts laying around as well as there was a time when BoLS was running events and we had a pile of these options.  I never took a Skyshield but played against many of them back in the good ole days.

Temple of Skulls

Next up we have the Temple of Skulls, from back in May 2009. What a crazy (and large) limited run terrain kit. This was “officially a Warhammer Fantasy terrain kit, but once your local FLGS got one into the mix, they became a facorite 40K stable. It was a big chunky area terrain kit that could block LoS from certain sides.  More importantly, and self respecting player say it’s end game opportunity for an epic hand to melee and would throw it down right in the center table!

Old School Boxes

Finally I have see in a box to my left an old Rhino kit.  The kit is so old it is way older than my kids.  I don’t even know why I have it but it is staring at me.  For a while the non infantry kit I have the most of was the lowly Rhino.  I remember going to my 4th Adepticon and running thru their Garage sale buying piles of Rhinos, Snap Fit Old Dreadnoughts, and the Anti Air gun from one of the terrain kits.  This was how I built my original Grey Knights army that lived off of abusing Rhinos, Dreadnoughts, and psychic ammunition.  It is always a wild time to think of these kits that sit there sad and unused.  I think I did give away my old-school Chimera kit I got over 15 years ago before they upgraded the sides and built an easier kit.  I never ripped off that shrink-wrap because I hated those tanks so dang much.

Scatter Dice

Finally if you have a set of Scatter Dice you are probably an Old 40k player.  There was a time the height of cool was having your own custom Scatter Dice. Even better was being an absolute beast with Guess Weapons, and be able to unerringly drop your Griffon template right on those bad guy’s heads turn after turn! Oh the good ole days when one round of shooting with a Missile Launcher could cause a chain reaction of nonsense.

~What is your most beloved obsolete piece of terrain, or 40K accessory that shows you are really an old-timer?
