Beadle & Grimm’s has made a big box o’ horrors for you in the form of ‘Strahd’s Silver Edition’ of Ravenloft: The Horrors Within.
Beadle & Grimm’s, purveyors of deluxe tabletop experiences in a box, is at it again. This time, it’s Ravenloft: The Horrors Within (Strahd’s Version). I guess the full, technical, government name is Strahd’s Silver Edition. But we all know.
If you’re familiar with B&G’s products, you know too well that they are big boxed set versions of popular adventures and supplements and sourcebooks. In the case of the new Ravenloft book, this means lots of printed battle maps, monster/encounter cards, and of course, your very own Tarokka deck.
Baedle & Grimm’s Presents Ravenloft: The Horrors Within – Strahd’s Silver Edition
If you want physical stuff: trinkets, talismans, special counters and decks of cards with all the items and dark gifts and things already on them (and lovingly, arted up), then this is probably exactly what you’re looking for. These boxes are expensive; case in point, the Silver Edition runs $225, but it comes with actual stuff that you own, that you have in your space. It’s a huge draw.
As much as I love online play, there’s something unreproducible about the tactile, in-the-room stuff. It’s the sensation of getting a spooky letter and your DM hands you a spooky letter. And if you’re not the kind of DM who wants to tea stained paper and weather it in the oven, and no judgement if you’re not, then this is kind of a convenient way to capture that feeling.
Of course, these boxes being what they are, it really only makes sense if you are going to run a lot of Ravenloft. Or if you want spooky and/or horror things because that’s the vibe of the campaign you run. Because you will get a lot of stuff explicitly designed around running the encounters and locations in Ravenloft.
“Built for you, the DM that demands an immersive game experience for your players, our Ravenloft: The Horrors Within – Strahd’s Silver Edition contains everything you need to create frightful adventures in the Domains of Dread that will terrify and delight your players.”
What’s in the box, you might be wondering? Well. As it turns out, a lot of maps, and a bonus adventure:
