Goatboy here with my top 3 “new” armies I would like to see in in our new 11th Edition of 40K. These would be super cool, AND easy for GW to add!
This isn’t just a look into current 40K armies and what could be tweaked. This is really just trying to look at 40k’s past (that GW LOVES to mine) and figure out what might actually come out when Nottingham gets around to it. There is so much weird fluff in the game and there has to be some crazy stuff in our future. We can’t just have a ton of Marines all the time.
Dark Mechanicus
Why isn’t this an army yet? There is so much fluff and lore about the Dark Mechanicus that it just makes sense. They build all the weird stuff for the Chaos guys so why not give them a bunch of creepy monsters. You could easily shift a few things from the Chaos Line over, build a dual kit troop unit, throw in some cool HQ’s, and create a unique army on the table top. You could build the whole thing on a curse style mechanic that causes the areas around them to be filled with the static of the damned souls they have taken to build their mechanical monsters on the tabletop. I don’t want it to just be a simple hack onto the Chaos Space Marine book but instead a truely new and unique thing. You could come out with an awesome box with codex and get the ball rolling before Xmas.
A huge amount of Dark Mechanicus mini are alreay out, from Vashtorr, to the Lord Discordant, to all Daemon Engines. Really all this army needs is a couple of dual-unit kits to act as Chaos counterparts of Skitarii and Kataphrons, plus a couple of single-figure support characters.
Lost and the Damned Army
While on the one side we have the Dark Mechanicus you could also set up the entire idea of having the Traitor Guard and their legions of slaves sent to their death. You also could add in the other Abhumans that weren’t as nice as the Ratlings. There is just a lot of stuff already there and adding a few more things could be really interesting as well. You could just create a simple vehicle sprue update that even matches with the Rhinos and other CSM stuff by giving you more spikes, more chains, and other things to shift your army into a true zoo of chaotic nonsense. These are the enslaved believers that are fed the corrupted corpse paste and want nothing more than to rip your throat out on the battlefield.
Mini-wise, this army is a slamdunk. You basically need a Traitor Guard vehicle accessory sprue for all the Astra Militarum kits, rebox all the Traitor Guardsmen, Ogryn, Commissar, and Beastmen kits, and add in a couple famous Rebel Guard named characters. Just imagine who the rebel counterpart to Creed or Yarrick is? SO COOL!
T’au Auxiliaires
You know the T’au work with more than the Kroot and the Vespids. What if GW came out with more weird Xenos races the T’au work with and create some unique little touches to the army? They could be more interesting Killteams or other fun mini boxes. They could be a unique set of heroes like the Maesters of the Maelstrom. This could also go into creating more unique T’au leadership that isn’t just a cool anime battle suit. I think the T’au line has a lot of room in their fluff to get some cool things and let you create aliens. They could be awesome energy beings that float in powerful suits built by the T’au or other interesting alien creatures. I just feel there is so much more room that we have left that let’s 40k get weird and not just Chaos weird.
Mini-wise, a Tau Auxiliaries army is the best chance to get a true 40K ‘Dogs of War’ supplement into the Grimdark. Mercenaries forever! Basically every crazy xenos and mercenary reference GW has ever throw out into the fluff, can have its day in the sun.
What other armies are you hoping we see soon? Do you think will just get more Marine characters and other fun stuff? Do we finally get more Xenos nonsense?
