Now that was a nice Warhammer Summer Reveal.  Here’s the biggest surprises and what we can glean about GW’s future plans.

There was a lot of 40k goodness and more than enough hints on how things are going to be coming out as we get new books, new units, and fun rules.  It is going to be a wild ride as we wait for all the new goodies to hit our shops and land in our grubby little hands.

On the 40k side of things we really had 4 specific sets of reveals.

Custodes Are the New Daemons (Multi-System Faction)

I think one of the more exciting bits was the showcase of more Adeptus Custodes and the continued idea to support this army within 30k and 40k.  I love to see this as I feel there is a lot missing from the 30k line that could sit well within the 40k universe.  Letting the Custodes come out with tweaked designs and hopefully decent rules will let players get a chance to dabble in both games.  I really like how the Telemon feels like a nice update to the kit with some more fancy bits added on and a slightly bigger size.  I am excited to see the new bikes and I hope the other bikes stay relevant too as I still think their design is solid.  Will see what they end up doing and if the army is really a lot bigger with a ton of different unit options.  I am sure will see the updated  Custodes Terminators soon.

So Many Ways to Get Into 40K

The next interesting piece is the sheer amount of 40K starter boxes we have coming out.  There are so many levels that any new player can easily get involved and find out if they want to keep playing the game.  I love the intro of paint bots in the boxes and think that is a great way to start the hobby.  The big push for terrain boxes too is pretty amazing with enough options to build a table and the “area” pieces to help let you play the game.  I think the only thing they are missing is a play mat to mess as throwing down on Neoprene is just a nicer way to play the game.

Even More Orks (& Codex) On the Way!

Beyond the starter stuff we saw some new Ork things.  The codex going to paper back with a lot of Detachment options sounds amazing.  The updated rules to the army also seem neat as well even if throwing in more Lethal Hits is kind of an annoying issue.  It rumors some of the “toughness” matters aspects that can be frustrating.  Will see if it truly becomes an issue.  I really like the new Trukk model and think it is great that the old Trukk model still fits with the overall theme.  The new one is pretty amazing and with all the other bits from the Orks shown it is going to be a great rest of the year to be an Ork player.  I really think the Ork side of things came out a lot stronger in this latest boxed set and the new bits are really matching up.

After 30 Years – EXODITES!

Finally we have Exodites finally showing up to 40k.  This is one of those armies that players have talked about forever.  I remember a lot of older players who have converted their own army so it is nice to see them finally come out with a Killteam of these guys.  I love the idea of Killteam being the method to introduce some of the new armies and hope we see other weird stuff show up.  I can expect a Legion of the Damned sub army showing up at some point.  I am not the biggest fan of the Aeldari but it is great to see something new come out for them.  I have high hopes to see whatever new Drukhari stuff comes out later on in 11th edition.

Old World Chaos Looking Brutal!

Overall it is a pretty good summer set of previews we got to look at.  The Warriors of Chaos line looks amazing for Old World.  The models look like they have come out of some of the old Art from the past.  I think the Chaos Dragon is amazing and I wonder when someone uses it as a giant Warhammer Greater Daemon of some sort.  The new Ogres also look pretty amazing for Age of Sigmar with a nice shift in their design that keeps the look for hungry but updates it for the new game.  I really have been enjoying the new designs as they feel well thought out without looking over designed.

What are you excited for?  What new things are you ready to show up on the table top?  What do you want to paint next?
