Asmodee has announced the launch of a new studio called Moodbox Games that will specialize in producing social party games.  The first raft of games from the new studio will release in July, including Guess the Mess, Link Out Loud, Photo Dump, and Who Says? Friends.

In a press release, the head of Moodbox Games Kelli Schmitz stated: “The goal with Moodbox Games is to create experiences that instantly bring energy, laughter, and connection to the table. This first lineup reflects the kind of social play we know people are craving right now – games that are approachable, highly interactive, and memorable whether you’re playing with family, close friends, or a large group.”

The initial releases for Moodbox Games includes three titles developed and edited by teams of women as part of the company’s commitment to inclusivity in game creation.  These titles include:

Guess the Mess calls on the players’ deduction skills as they dig through a messy pile of cards trying to locate clues that will identify a secret location, then pass that mess on to the next player who must try to figure out that secret from the clues they receive.  This game is the creation of Jack Degnan (Word on the Street, Ramen Extreme) and features artwork by NotFriends Studio.  Includes 290 Mess cards, 90 Place cards, 48 Guessing cards, six tokens, and a game board.  Playable by three to six players, ages eight and up, in about half an hour.  MSRP is $19.99.

Link Out Loud is a team-based game in which players race to offer clues that link together two symbols, such as a heart and sunglasses or a basketball and anchor, with clues limited to a single word.  Link Out Loud was created by Jeremy Posner (Mantis, Piggy Piggy) and Ken Gruhl (Happy Salmon, Cahoots).  It comes with 80 image cards, 30 answer cards, and five number tiles, with illustrations by Brian Kirk.  For two to eight players, ages eight and up, it takes about 20 minutes to play.  MSRP is $14.99.

Photo Dump draws the players’ own photos into a game that involves storytelling and sharing of memories, powered by abstract prompts intended for family-friendly content.  The first published design by Annika Wierichs, Photo Dump is intended for two to eight players, ages thirteen and up, and plays in around 20 minutes.  The game includes 100 prompt cards and 32 number cards. MSRP is $14.99.

Rounding out the new release is Who Says?  Friends, a version of the Lloyd Mintz game featuring iconic quotes and content from the long-running Friends television show, developed by Bolt Games.

Asmodee also announced a version of Spot-It!  Featuring K-Pop Demon Hunters, also releasing in July (see “‘Spot-It!  K-Pop Demon Hunters’ Heads to Retail”).
