The official 40k app has been updated for the new edition, alongside the Munitorum Field Manual points document.
The rollout of 11th edition 40k has begun in earnest today. As promised, the official 40k app has been updated with points, detachments, and more, all-new functions. The rollout does seem to be a work-in-progress as the datasheets have not yet been fully updated, but there’s lots to talk about in the meantime.
The War Journal and Linked Play
Much of the updated app will be familiar to existing players, but the War Journal adds a slew of new features. The War Journal is meant to help players quickly navigate the app without taking their attention from the tabletop. From here you can generate your mission based on your Force Disposition, assign terrain layouts and deployment maps, and track your victory points during play. If this works as promised it should make the new mission system really easy to use.
As well, you can now sync your device with your opponent’s to link your army list and rules together. This means you’ll have access to all of the same information as your opponent which should considerably speed up play. The app is also integrated with Games Workshop’s ongoing event pairing partners at Best Coast Pairings. This will allow you to submit your roster and game scores directly to the tournament organizer through the app.
Battleforge
Naturally, list building remains the heart of the 40k app’s functionality. The Battle Forge army builder is now updated with all detachments, existing and new to 11th edition, along with their affiliated Force Dispositions, and of course, all unit points. It does appear that datasheets have not yet been fully updated but that seems likely to come this weekend or early next week after the official launch of the new edition and the Armageddon box set. Any Codex content you unlocked during 10th edition will remain at your disposal in the meantime, however.
Munitorum Field Manual
The Munitorum Field Manual has received a major facelift this edition. No longer a simple PDF, it’s now a dedicated part of the Warhammer Community website. The Field Manual now includes unit and upgrade costs, breakdowns of which squads can be joined by leaders and the characters with the new “support” keyword, as well as Detachment Points and Force Dispositions. As the edition proceeds all updates to the app will simultaneously be made to the Munitorum Field Manual in what should hopefully be a seamless deployment.
We’re still waiting on those updated datasheets, of course, but there’s enough out now to start seriously playing with list building. Time to figure out a Blood Angels list for the summer and what I’ll next add to my Biel-Tan Aeldari!
What’s the first thing you want to do with the updated app?
