Just in time for us all to bask in the Ocarina of Time remake announcement haze, Twilight Sword, the Zelda-like TTRPG, gets a release date.

Exciting news for Zelda fans this week. And I’m not just talking about the recent reveal that there’s an Ocarina of Time remake coming. Though I mean, all things considered, that’s probably the flashier news, since the impact that Ocarina of Time has left on the shape of gaming, both video and tabletop, is almost impossible to overstate.

But while your inner child is screaming with delight and encouraging you to go out and buy ice cream sandwiches at the gas station just because you can (and when was the last time you did that and really savored it?), don’t let slip the fact that Twilight Sword, the Breath of the Wild and Tears of the Kingdom inspired tabletop RPG has a release date this year as well. In fact, the fantasy RPG from Two Little Mice and Free League Publishing will be out with a beautiful starter set in October this year.

Twilight Sword Starter Set – Coming October 6th

Just one look at Twilight Sword‘s art and you can see its influences on its sleeve. But it’s also a new RPG system designed by Two Little Mice, whose work you might know from Outgunned. But even if you don’t, all you need to know is that the game has a lot of complexity baked into its simple rules structure, with a mix of elements that oppose each other and more.

All of it takes place in the world of Radia, where an ancient scourge has returned and cast a shadow upon the land. Fortunately, you and your friends are plucky heroes who will challenge that evil by raising their Twilight Swords. Like I said, the influences are on its sleeve.

You can take a look at a preview of the game right here. But more salient might be taking a look at what’s in the Starter Set, which will be releasing October 6th of this year. It’s closer than you’d like it to be.

“The starter set comes in a cubic box that looks like a magic chest. It comes with everything players need to pick up and play a game of Twilight Sword RPG: a booklet with all the basic rules, an introductory mini-campaign, 7 polyhedral dice (including two d12s), 6 pre-generated Champion sheets, over 60 cards, 40 status tokens, and 4 boons (plastic coins). It also contains a new location for the game, the mysterious Twilight Island.”

Keep an eye out for when this starter set gets closer to you. Though I believe you can still pre-order at the BackerKit page, linked below. Either way, look for the Twilight Sword starter set this October!
