Datasheets and detachments are here for all 8 Xenos Factions in the new edition of 40k. Let’s take a look at the changes!
The Faction Pack previews continue today as Games Workshop has released a set for every Xenos faction in 40k. Following up on yesterday’s reveal of the Space Marine Faction Packs, this set includes datasheets and detachments for Orks, Aeldari, Drukhari, Tyranids, Genestealer Cults, Necrons, Leagues of Votann, and the T’au Empire.
Detachments and Force Dispositions
Once again, the studio was kind enough to break down all the detachments, both new and old, with their names and new Detachment Point costs. Under the new Detachment system, you’ll receive 2 DP in 1,000- point games and 3 DP at the 2,000-point levels.
All of these will be listed in the upcoming Munitorum Field Manual, presumably alongside unit point costs. Between the MFM and these downloadable detachments, every army in the game will be prepared to get by until their 11th edition Codex is released.
Additionally, after hearing public demand yesterday, they’ve also listed each detachment’s Force Disposition. Force Dispositions are going to be incredibly important when constructing your army lists in 11th edition. Your choice of Force Disposition will determine which mission you’ll play. As an added bonus, they’ve gone back to yesterday’s Space Marine Faction Pack preview and added all of the relevant Force Dispositions.
Rules Tweaks and Realignments
There is just an absolute pile of stuff to dig into here. These documents are the baseline rules for each faction at the beginning of the new edition. Accordingly, there’s no markup or indication of changes from the 10th edition rules. The studio won’t start tracking those changes in web documents until eratta and FAQs are released.
In the meantime, it will take a fine tooth comb to find all of the changes but that’s part of the fun in the final days before a new edition. For myself, I’m going to take some time and look at the Aeldari and Tyranid documents and try and suss out where I might take my armies this edition. The new Aeldari detachments aren’t really to my taste but the Warrior Bioform Onslaught for Tyranids looks like it might be a lot of fun.
Honestly, detachments are probably my favorite part of 40k and I’m excited about the new Detachment Points system. I love being able to build a thematic force using the detachments as building blocks so I’m looking forward to spending the afternoon thinking on themes.
Aspect Host is still looking pretty tasty to me, but what’s your favorite detachment so far?
