Onyx Path Publishing announced a 3rd Edition of its RPG of modern mythology, Scion, using the Storypath Ultra system.

At this year’s Onyx Path Virtual Gaming Convention (Onyx Con), we got surprise news of a 3rd Edition for Scion, the game of demigods and divinities in a modern world. While details are still sparse, it looks like Storypath Ultra will be at the heart of this new edition as well.

Scion 3rd Edition Announced

Exactly as the headline says, this year we got news of 3rd Edition for Scion. If you’ve never played Scion, it’s an RPG in the vein of stories like Percy Jackson and American Gods. You play as the titular Scions, the children of divinities chosen from a wide swath of pantheons. Seriously, it’s more in-depth than you might be expecting, even if you’re expecting a lot.

You do battle with the titans and their servants/remnants, or whatever else you decide. Recently Scion had a campaign/splatbook all about fame and fortune and the power of rock and roll. But now, it seems, a new edition is around the corner.

Perhaps the biggest point here is that Scion 3E will run with Storypath Ultra. SU is Onyx Path’s refined version of the Storypath System, which powers Scion 2E (among other games). However, it’s not a completely new engine, as Onyx Path have said before:

“Storypath Ultra isn’t a new edition, nor is it a replacement rule set — many of the concepts we developed and refined from the Storypath System are still there, even as they rearrange or rename things to make them as clear as possible. Think of it as a new take on Storypath: It’s the same great game but spruced up and tweaked to be the best possible version.”

In the announcement panel we got a few other details. For starters, there’s a new type of “black sheep” Scion which will have no connections to any pantheon. The game will feature more knacks than ever, making customization even crunchier. And some other welcome overhauls, like the Relic system getting revisited, as well as new options for Hero-level Scions.

All in all, it looks pretty exciting. So keep an eye out in the near future for more from Scion.
