Goatboy here and GW has just unveiled the new Warhammer 40K Space Marines all new mini detachments and updates. I want to go over the top 5 I like from all the Space Marine codexes.
GW gave us early peek at today’s 11th Edition Marine detachments a bit ago. But today we have the full story. I know these detachments might change again as the newest Codexes coming out for 11th Edition will be Space Marines and Orks due to being in the Armageddon boxed set. There is a lot of interesting things in these updates and finding out which 1 point DPs you will want to try and use will be important in the upcoming version of the game. Let’s get started with the ones that sound the strongest.
Space Marines – Librarius Conclave – 1DP
This is the updated Space Marines Librarius Conclave detachment and I think it could have a lot of lets in the upcoming game. The ability to power up units with Librarians is very interesting as Space Marines have so many options. Do you want some advance and charging Assault Terminators? How about some hard to hit Phobos marines? Or do you want a tough shooting unit of Hellblasters that could get Sustained Hits and all kinds of other fun things. This is just a very interesting set of rules that could allow you to create some really powerful little mini units within your army that isn’t just a ton of Repulsors and other tanks within the Frame keyword.
Black Templars – The Living Miracle – 1DP
Have you always wanted an amazing Emperor’s Champion? This little Black Templar detachment just seems rip to update your crazy friends into doing some nutty things. At the beginning of the Battle you get to pick 3 options from 6 choices with things like Devastating wounds vs characters, -3” detection range, +2 Attacks, -1CP for Heroic Intervention, an anti fallback option for enemies in combat, and all melee attacks that target him gain Hazardous. I get the feeling extra attacks, CP discounts, and devastating wounds will be picked a lot of the time.
Dark Angels – Darkflight Pursuit – 1DP
This Dark Angels one seems interesting especially when you combine it with the other 1DP one from Space Marines that love speeders. This is the army if you want to take as many options that are Speeder, have fly, and gain the Ravenwing keyword. We’ll see if a Speeder army works but I suspect this plus Fulguris Task Force would give you all the options to have an insanely hard hitting first turn with a plethora of Speeders.
Space Wolves – Legends of Saga and Song – 1DP
This is the detachment for Space Wolves that has you playing a crap ton of Terminators. You can get an enhancement that gives them a +1 to toughness too and mixed with all their other damage saving options gives you some tough hitting units that will “jail” you in. It feels like another army that just builds itself and wants you to grab as many terminators as you can.
Blood Angels – Encarmine Speartip – 1DP
This is the interesting one from the Blood Angels that powers up your Sanguinary Guard. You can gain Lethal or Sustained hits for a unit or get a turn where you jump characters gets +1 to their damage. It really shines in the Stratagem department with a reactive move, an ability to gain stealth, and a pseudo tank shock for your jump pack unit. It feels like a nice bit of utility from a few things and with the default ability to allow your Sanguinary Guard units the ability to fallback, shoot, and charge.
The Also Rans…
The Deathwatch didn’t get any updated Detachments from what we were shown and Grey Knights is different enough from the default marines to show up in another review in the future. The more interesting thing in all of this is finding out which Detachment you like is not 3DP and allowing you to experiment with one of these new ones. There has to be some interesting things as so many of these options allow your army to be faster and deploy so quickly into the enemies lines. I wonder how many “jail” options will exist with piles of Terminators hitting home so close and so quickly.
