A new global campaign will decide the fate of Hive Deathmire this summer! Who will win – the Imperium of Man or the Ork hordes?

New edition, new global campaign! The Siege of Deathmire continues this edition’s “back to basics” approach with a new global campaign harkening back to the 3rd War for Armageddon in the year 2000. That summer event was actually GW’s second global campaign following 1995’s less well-remembered Battle of Ichar IV (though that’s the one of the two I actually played in!). For more than three decades, Armageddon has been hallowed ground in the 40k universe, and as the setting of the new edition, we’ll be returning there to do battle this summer.

The campaign begins on June 22nd, the Monday after the release of the Armageddon box set. Over the next three weeks, participants will battle to determine the fate of Armageddon’s Hive Deathmire. This epic conflict was set up in the recently released expansion, Armageddon: The Return of Yarrick – War Without End. Encircled by massive Ork armies, Hive Deathmire is a critical location in the defense of the whole world.

Decide the fate of a Hive City

Over the course of three weeks, any 40k players can participate by reporting the results of their games through your My Warhammer account. Each week a different location in or around the Hive will be the setting of your games. Details are still sparse, but we can expect some kind of global effects applied to all games played in the campaign during that week. A final, fourth location will be revealed at the end of these games, to be determined by games played in official GW shops.

And while the war for Armageddon is focused on Orks versus Imperial forces, any armies can take part in this campaign, though they will presumably need to declare for one side or the other.

The Spoils of Victory

At the end of each week, GW will reveal the results of the battle thus far. The side in “Ascendancy” will be rewarded with reveals of upcoming new models for that side. It’s pretty safe to assume that these will be Space Marines/Blood Angels and Orks but with the Astra Militarum being so central to the story of Armageddon maybe we’ll see some other Imperial reveals mixed in. Assuming the Imperials succeed in gaining Ascendancy, that is!

Ongoing reveals aside, the campaign’s end will determine the fate of Hive Deathmire in the ongoing narrative of 40k and culminate in a set of new rules being released for use in your ongoing games. And arguably best of all, anyone participating in the campaign will have a chance to win one of 40 1,000 point (see what they did there?) Ork or Space Marine armies!

This is a really juicy sounding campaign to me. The chance to win some prizes is great but honestly, I love global campaign like this. It’s the kind of gaming that really makes you feel like you’re taking part in the world of the game and also participating in a global community of players.

It’s gonna be Blood Angels for me, but which side will you fight for on Armageddon?
