This year, D&D is offering a free adventure, Borderlands Quest: Dagger Danger, as part of the upcoming International Day of Play.

June 11th marks the International Day of Play. And to celebrate, D&D is offering a free 1st-level adventure, available right now. You can even snag last year’s free adventure once again. What adventure? And what is the International Day of Play? Let’s check it out.

D&D’s Free Adventure For The International Day Of Play Is A Borderlands Quest

First things first, what exactly is the International Day of Play? While it might sound like one of those marketing holidays, it’s actually an initiative that started up just two years ago by the United Nations. The International Day of Play recognizes the “power of play” and its importance to everyone’s development. In other words, the day recognizes play as a fundamental human right.

And this year, WotC is ramping things up in a big way by “expanding access to play” with a variety of events. Mostly aimed at beginners, whether that’s beginners at D&D or beginners at Magic. Case in point, the free new adventure, Borderlands Quest: Dagger Danger.

This is a 1st-level adventure that’s relatively short. But it’s enough to give anyone who picks it up a sense of the play of D&D. I can see how someone would say it’s accessible because you don’t have to block off a whole day to get through it. You only need an hour or two.

“Join us to celebrate International Day of Play with Borderlands Quest: Dagger Danger!—an introductory adventure offering new players and Dungeon Masters the perfect welcome into the world of Dungeons & Dragons!

This short level 1 adventure takes the players on an exciting D&D journey to recover a stolen heirloom by venturing into one of the dreaded Caves of Chaos.”

As for the adventure itself? It’s a simple five room dungeon with opportunities for combat and roleplay. You know, a real basic D&D adventure. It’s designed to get new DMs used to running the game; there’s a lot of advice for DMs in this one. If you’ve been curious about running a D&D session, and want an example with a bit of handholding, this is a potential resource for you.

And it’s free. Can’t argue with that price. You can also claim last year’s free adventure on D&D Beyond. So if you want to get a jump on this year’s International Day of Play, check it out at the link below!
