New Yorker cartoonists Roz Chast and Jason Adam Katzenstein talk about their kitchens, from Tupperware Drawer Tetris to the mysteries lurking in the cabinet over the fridge, in a new graphic novel, The Two Saddest Kitchens, set for release on October 6, 2026.  Publisher Bloomsbury has announced a first printing of 175,000.

Chast’s graphic memoir Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant? was the first graphic novel to be named a finalist for a National Book Award in an adult category (see “‘Can’t We Talk About Something More Pleasant?’”) and was a runaway best-seller, due in part to its crossover appeal to older women, at the time a new demographic for graphic novels.  She was chosen by voters to be inducted into the Eisner Hall of Fame in 2025 (see “Eisner Awards 2025”).

In addition to cartooning, Katzenstein is the artist for Camp Midnight, a middle-grade graphic novel duology written by Man of Action Entertainment’s Steven T. Seagle and published by Image Comics (see “Image Expo Announcements”).
