The American Library Association’s Graphic Novels & Comics Round Table has released its list of the top ten 2025 (late 2024 through 2025) adult graphic novels, and it includes an eclectic mix of titles including manga, a Godzilla title, and titles by Tom King and Craig Thompson, among others. The titles are:
Between Two Sounds: Arvo Pärt’s Journey to his Musical Language. Written and drawn by Joonas Sildre (Plough Publishing House).
Confession. Written by Nobuyuki Fukumoto, with art by Kaiji Kawaguchi (Kodansha USA).
Dogs and Punching Bags. Written and drawn by Kaori Ozaki(Kodansha USA).
Ginseng Roots: A Memoir. Written and drawn by Craig Thompson (Pantheon).
Godzilla’s Monsterpiece Theater. Written and drawn by Tom Scioli (IDW Publishing).
Helen of Wyndhorn. Written by Tom King with art by Bilquis Evely (Dark Horse Comics).
Love Languages. Written and drawn by James Albon (Top Shelf Productions).
More Weight: A Salem Story. Written and drawn by Ben Wickey (IDW Publishing).
Talking to My Father’s Ghost: An Almost True Story. Written and drawn by Alex Krokus (Chronicle Books).
Trans History: From Ancient Times to the Present Day. Written and drawn by Alex L. Combs and Andrew Eakett (Candlewick Press).
The goals of the list, according to the Round Table, are to increase awareness of the graphic novel medium, raise voices of diverse comics creators, and aid library staff in the development of graphic novel collections.
