BOOM! Studios has acquired the licenses for two comics based on Hasbro properties, Jem and the Holograms and My Little Pony.

BOOM! has already announced a BOOM! Direct Reserve campaign to publish a four-volume deluxe hardcover collection of Jem and the Hologram comics published by IDW; the campaign will launch on Kickstarter in November 2025. They also plan to publish new Jem comics starting in 2026. BOOM! Publisher Michael Kelly, who is a former Hasbro VP and played a lead role in managing Hasbro’s global publishing licenses, (see “Random House Completes BOOM! Acquisition”), told Publishers Weekly that the new publisher has not yet decided whether to continue the IDW series, provide an ending to the animated show, or reboot the property altogether. “Nothing is set in stone, but there are lots of possibilities,” he said. “Our writing will focus on young adult/new adult, but everything will be accessible and appropriate for a late middle-grade reader.”

As for My Little Pony, Kelly told PW BOOM! plans a new series, which will likely be based on the Friendship Is Magic! series, as well as deluxe collected editions of the older comics. As with Jem, the new comics will continue to be accessible to younger readers. “The complex sequential storytelling will keep it above a certain age, but it could appeal to those as young as eight if they’re comfortable in the medium,” Kelly said.

IDW got the My Little Pony license in 2012 (see “IDW Does ‘My Little Pony’”) and the Jem license in 2014 (see “‘Jem and the Holograms’ Comic”).
