Borderlands Comics and Games has been in business for over three decades, selling comics, graphic novels, games, and collectibles to customers in Greenville, South Carolina, and beyond.  Owner Rob Young started working at the store when he was 21, left for a while, and then came back and bought it in 2011.  He now runs the store with his wife Michele.  Borderlands hosts SC Comicon, a family-friendly event that is held at the Greenville Convention Center in April, as well as numerous in-store events.

Borderlands Comics and Games’ Current Vibe

Location:  410 South Pleasantburg Drive, Greenville, South Carolina

Store Specialties:  Comics, graphic novels, games.

Buying Mood of Customers:  “Overall positive and engaging with hobbies they enjoy,” Young said.  “Blind box products are flying. K-Pop and Blokees have been great and anything Miku.  Of course the Absolute line is hot and Transformers as well.”

The New Hotness in the Shop:  DC’s Absolute line remains popular. “It is not slowing down for us at all.”

What’s Bringing in New Customers (besides comics):  Magic: The Gathering, Pokémon, Gundam, toys, the store’s large back issues section.

Biggest Challenge This Year:  “We just ran SC Comicon and do will call for wristbands at the shop.  This brings a ton of new foot traffic but has logistical challenges.”

Pick Hits for Q2 into Q3:  Absolute Green Arrow, Punisher vs. Spider-Man (see “New Limited Series Goes Back to the Early Days of Punisher and Spider-Man“).
