Hollywood news continues to roll in, and it’s time to roll out another round-up!

The Walt Disney Company is planning to lay off up to 1,000 employees in the coming weeks, according to The Wall Street Journal The layoff is one of the first moves by newly-installed CEO Josh D’Amaro (see “New Disney CEO“).  Many of the positions eliminated are said to come from the company’s consolidated marketing department.  The layoff comes as Hulu and Disney+ continue to merge their staffs as the two streaming apps become one (see “Hulu App Going Away“).

The X-Men films are getting a reboot, according to Deadline The first X-Men reboot movie will be the one that Jake Schreier was attached to direct back in 2025 (see “‘X-Men’ Finds a Director“).  Producers have also tapped Lee Sung Jim and Joanna Calo to work on a script for the reboot.

Hulu has cast Kevin Bacon in the pilot for Southern Bastards, according to Deadline The pilot is based on an Image Comics series of the same name by Jason Aaron and Jason Latour; Hulu ordered a pilot for this series in November 2025 (see “‘Southern Bastards’ Series“).

Marvel Entertainment has released a trailer for The Punisher: One Last Kill (see below).  This special presentation film, starring Jon Bernthal (see “‘Punisher’ Gets ‘One Last Kill’“), will stream on Disney+ beginning May 12, 2026.

Warner Bros. released a new trailer for Mortal Kombat II (see below).  The sequel stars The Boys’ Karl Urban as Johnny Cage, Martyn Ford as Shao Kahn, and Adeline Rudolph as Kitana, and will head to theaters on May 8, 2026 (see “‘Mortal Kombat II’“).

Netflix announced a new LEGO One Piece animated special.  The special will retell the events of the first two seasons of the One Piece live action series (see “‘One Piece’“) in two parts.  The first part will hit streaming on September 29, 2026.  Check out the trailer below.Source: ICV2
