Nakama Press has announced its first YA romance: Aperture, a time-travel story by writer Kirsten Thompson and Brazilian artist Huenito.  The story follows Sage, a college student who finds an old camera in the library archives that connects her to another student who was at the same university over 100 years earlier.  The connection between the two grows but is threatened by the onset of World War I, as well as the inevitable march of history.  The standalone graphic novel will be released on August 26, 2026, as a 224-page paperback with an MSRP of $10.99.

Thompson is the creator of I Am Hexed, a supernatural political thriller that pulled in over $75,000 across five Kickstarter campaigns, four for individual issues and one for the collected edition.

Mad Cave Studios announced its Nakama Press imprint in 2024 (see “Mad Cave Announces Manga Imprint”) as a line of graphic novels from East Asia and elsewhere (Thompson is based in the Pacific Northwest) that tell stories in a style informed by manga.
