Players have been speculating about a Magic: the Gathering/Monster Hunter crossover for a while now, but yesterday, official confirmation from Wizards of the Coast finally came through. A Monster Hunter Secret Lair Super Drop will be running from December 1st to December 22nd. While no artwork has currently been provided, a list of cards from the drop, as well as the elements of the Monster Hunter universe that they represent, has been announced.

The Secret Lair will be split into four separate drops.

The Monsters I, and The Monsters II –  Two drops that will feature a selection of the most recognizable foes from the menacing menagerie of the Monster Hunter world. It’s not currently clear how the monsters will be divided up between these two drop, but combined they will contain the cards…

-Nezahal, Primal Tide, as Lagiacrus
-Drakuseth, Maw of Flames, as Rathalos
-Sarulf, Realm Eater, as Zinogre
-Vaevictis Asmadi, the Dire, as Nergigante
-Ziatora, the Incinerator, as Fatalis
-Razaketh, the Foulblooded, as The Gore Malaga
-Amareth, the Lustrous, as Velkhana
-Wasitora, Nekorus Queen, as Nargacuga
-Kalamax, the Stormsire, as Brachydios

The Hunt – this drop contains instants, sorceries, and enchantments that are supposed to represent the impact of a series of monstrously powerful attacks.

-Blind Obedience, representing the lifedraining abilities of Malzeno

-Snap, representing Kushala Daora’s ability to manipulate the wind

-Mizzium Mortars, representing the ferocity of Yian Garuga

-Village Rites, which will depict both Magnamalo and Tobi-Kadachi

-Tooth and Nail, which will show both Azure Rathalos and Seregios

The Hunters – Of course, Monster Hunter isn’t just a game about monsters, it’s also a game about the people who slay them, and the powerful equipment that they wield. The Hunters drop will focus on the titular Monster Hunters, featuring a fully armed character in each of magic’s five colors.

-Grand Abolisher will be wearing Tigrex Armor, and wielding Bone Scythes.

-Archaeomancer will be in Velkhana Armor with a Slinger, and a Winged Seraphyd Greatsword.

-Grim Haruspex will be rocking some Nargacuga Armor, and aiming a Hidden Eye Light Bowgun

-Imperial Recruiter seems to be wearing rather a lot. The description from Wizards of the Coast describes them in “Rathalos Armor with Red Tigrex Claws, Brachydios Armor with Burning Knocker, and Gore Malaga Armor and Royal Rose.” Quite how Imperial Recruiter will manage to wear this entire array of outfits is a mystery, but I look forward to seeing the final art when it’s revealed.

-Champion of Lambholt, will be kitted out in Astalos Armor, with a Verdant Lightning Shield.

Nonfoil versions of of these drops will be available for $29.99 (£22.81), while a foil version will cost $39.99 (£30.41).
